Cymbalta® Withdrawal Lawsuit

As you know, The Road Back Program has been providing free assistance and support to Cymbalta patients who have suffered from the sometimes life-debilitating withdrawal side effects associated with the discontinued use of Cymbalta and have been doing so since 1999.

15 years later, we are pleased to announce that Schmidt & Clark, LLP and Deskin Law Firm, nationally recognized products liability law firms have announced that they are now pursuing litigation against the manufacturer of Cymbalta on behalf of patients who took the drug and subsequently suffered from withdrawal side effects.

The firms are currently accepting new Cymbalta withdrawal clients nationwide.  To see if you qualify, you can visit their Cymbalta Withdrawal Lawsuit website as well as Deskin Law Firm at

What’s the Problem?

Cymbalta is an antidepressant medication approved to treat major depressive and anxiety disorders, chronic musculoskeletal pain including discomfort from osteoarthritis and chronic lower back pain, as well as diabetic peripheral neuropathy and fibromyalgia. The drug is manufactured by Eli Lilly & Co., and was first approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) in 2004.

Cymbalta has been linked to severe withdrawal symptoms in patients who discontinue treatment of the drug. Clinically referred to as Cymbalta Discontinuation Syndrome, this condition’s symptoms include*:

·         “Brain Zaps” (electric shock sensations)

·         Suicidal Thoughts

·         Nightmares

·         Involuntary Crying or Laughing

·         Persistent ringing in the ears (Tinnitus)

·         Mood swings

·         Limb pain

·         Hypomania

·         Seizures

·         Anxiety

·         Agitation

·         Diarrhea

* For a complete list of withdrawal symptom side effects, please visit our websites Cymbalta home page:

According to an FDA Warning, Cymbalta Discontinuation Syndrome can cause “injury, distress and life management impacts” when a patient quits taking the drug. Symptoms can persist for weeks or even months after discontinuing Cymbalta, and can adversely affect the person’s job function and personal relationships.

The Institute for Safe Medication Practices issued the following Cymbalta withdrawal warning, “an array of problems that included neurological effects such as Paresthesia and dizziness, psychiatric problems such as crying, suicidal ideation, and anger, and other symptoms including effects on appetite and weight gain. Early clinical studies of abrupt discontinuation showed that withdrawal effects occurred in 40 to 50% of patients, that 10% of those were severe, and that approximately half had not resolved when side effects monitoring ended after one or two weeks. Serious withdrawal symptoms are not unique to duloxetine, and occur with several other antidepressants, benzodiazepines, amphetamines, and opioids.

Cymbalta Discontinuation Dilemma

The Cymbalta Prescribing Information states: “A gradual reduction in the dose rather than abrupt cessation is recommended whenever possible.” However, gradually stepping down the dosage of Cymbalta is virtually impossible because the drug is only available in 20, 30 and 60mg capsules that cannot be divided or cut in half.
